Where Your Life as a Resident Begins: Our Self-Guided Tours

Without a doubt, house-hunting is one of the most exciting stages of the moving process. You get to see a wide selection of homes where you and your loved ones can one day spend your best days together.

After searching the web and going through several listings of homes to rent and finally finding one that meets your needs, what do you need to do if you want to get a closer look at the home of your dreams? To answer that question (and many others), we compiled everything you need to know about our self-guided home tours.

The self-guided tour advantage

Touring a rental home is a critical part of the house-hunting process. Being able to check out the different nooks and crannies of a prospective home can help you decide whether it’s a perfect fit for your needs. However, scheduling showings with landlords can be a frustrating experience—especially if you are on a tight schedule.

Many online listings offer photos of the property and virtual walk-throughs, but sometimes these aren’t enough to give you a full sense of the home. Self-guided tours offer prospective renters the freedom to schedule a tour whenever they want. Aside from that, you don’t need to take a tour with a realtor or an Imagine Homes employee, so there’s no pressure to sign a lease as soon as possible.

With the Rently tour process, it’s very easy to return for a second or even a third tour. You can even bring your family, friends, or roommates so they can check out the home for themselves. All of our self-guided tours allow you to view homes on your own time—when it’s most convenient for you.

Check if the home is ready for tours

Check with the landlord or property manager to make sure that your prospective home is available for tours. On our website, you can find an indication that tours are enabled for homes that are ready to rent.

Sign up for a self-guided tour

You can schedule self-guided tours seven days a week from 8 AM to 8 PM in most markets and booking a tour is a breeze. When you find a home that you like on our website, you can click the Enter Property Yourself button located right below the property’s address. Sign in to your Rently account or sign up if you don’t have one yet.

After that, you gain access to self-guided tours for multiple properties. You can even go back to a home that you like more than once with your friends and family or take measurements and make sure that the home is a good fit for you.

PRO TIP: When setting up an account with Rently, all you need is an ID (such as a driver’s license), a selfie, and a credit card. It only takes a couple of dollars to sign up for an account and you can tour multiple properties 7 days a week from 8 AM–8 PM.

Start touring your prospective home

Once you’re done signing up for an account, and a tour has been scheduled, you are now free to tour the property.


Instructions on how to proceed will be sent to you through either the Rently app or via text messages from Rently. When you visit the house, all you need to do is:

  • Dial a number that will be provided to you once you sign up for a Rently account
  • Enter the serial number for your prospective home
  • Check your phone or app for a personal tour code that you will use for the lock
  • Press the checkmark to unlock the door
  • Enjoy your self-guided tour

Since you’re on a self-guided tour, you can take your time to open all the doors, check out the closet space, and even take some measurements. This is the part where you want to make sure that the property has everything you want in a rental home.

Are your homes pet-friendly?

We take pride in being a pet-friendly home rental company. As such, most of our properties can accommodate up to three pets.

Are there washers and dryers?

Washers and dryers are not preinstalled in our homes. However, we made sure to install all the necessary hookups for these appliances if you wish to bring your own. We also offer rental washers and dryers for $40/month and we’ll even take care of the maintenance for them.

Can we get a fence installed?

Most of our homes are exactly as you see them. We’ve gone through extensive renovations and upgrades on our homes to make them modern, comfortable, and desirable places to live. If you find there is anything missing that would make your new home more enjoyable, certainly let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate!
